In May 2023, Vantage Markets donated US$100,000 to the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) to assist in the protection and resettlement of refugees and stateless individuals in Australia. Vantage Markets has now provided an update on the significant effects of their financial support.

The brokerage firm noted that the Australian Government has issued emergency visas to help evacuate individuals from Afghanistan who are at risk, including notable figures like Fatima, the captain of the Afghan Women’s Football Team.

UNHCR has been pivotal in addressing the needs of thousands of asylum seekers in Australia. Through advocacy for better protection, direct counseling, and the facilitation of long-term solutions, the agency has effectively assisted numerous refugees and stateless persons. In 2023, the donation from Vantage has impacted approximately 788 refugees, internally displaced persons (IDPs), and returnees. Among these, 119 were successfully resettled to New Zealand, 39 to Canada, and 19 to the United States.

The support provided by UNHCR has been crucial for individuals such as a woman from Iran, who suffered from severe PTSD and social isolation. Thanks to the counseling and resettlement support provided, she has found hope and is awaiting the results of her application to move to New Zealand.

According to a report by UNHCR Australia, the efforts supported by Vantage Markets have greatly improved the lives of many under UNHCR’s care, empowering them and enhancing their sense of autonomy. The report highlights that these initiatives not only provide immediate relief but also keep open the possibilities for resettlement, thus offering a hopeful and secure future.

Jack Kelly, Head of Sales at Vantage Australia, expressed pride in the collaboration: “Our work with UNHCR highlights our commitment to fostering an inclusive and compassionate global community. We are inspired by the impact of our partnership and the complex support processes managed by UNHCR. We believe that our initiative will inspire more support for UNHCR’s crucial efforts, furthering our shared goal of aiding refugees and building a compassionate community.”
